Very true. Excellently expressed. I’ve been the captain of my vessel for several areas of my life including career, finance, personal relationships, and health/fitness although that last one, for me anyway, can be difficult at times but I’m much better and making great strides at it. It’s why I like your articles so much. I also like the idea of being a passenger at times however, and I think a major discovery in our lives’ journeys is to know when to captain and when to be a passenger.

I agree that doing something hard in one area can carry over to another. I ran a few marathons in graduate school and purposefully remembered saying to myself when grad school got difficult “if i can train and complete a marathon I can get through this process. I think if we were more conscious about all the hard stuff we have done we would have less blocks to achieve future goals.
